Review Rating System
FileHostReviews uses a practical rating framework to compare file hosting services across the areas that matter most to real users: premium speed, free-tier restrictions, browser usability, JDownloader 2 support, traffic limits, pricing, and file availability.
Ratings are not based on affiliate commissions. A file host can perform well in one category and poorly in another. For example, a host may be fast in JDownloader 2 but weak in browser downloads, or cheap but limited by strict traffic rules.
Our scores are designed to summarize test results, not guarantee future performance. File host speed, pricing, traffic limits, payment options, and JDownloader 2 behavior can change over time.
For more detail about our test process, read our Testing Methodology and Editorial Policy.
The 50-Point Rating Framework
We use five main categories. Each category is scored out of 10 points, for a maximum total score of 50 points.
| Category | Maximum Score | What It Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Speed | 10 points | Browser and download manager performance |
| Ease of Use | 10 points | Website flow, payment friction, account handling, and usability |
| Free Tier Usability | 10 points | Free speed, waiting timers, captcha, ads, and cooldown limits |
| JDownloader 2 Support | 10 points | Account login, premium recognition, queue behavior, and stability |
| Value and Limits | 10 points | Pricing, traffic allowance, file retention, and practical value |
1. Premium Speed
This category measures how well the host performs with premium access.
We consider:
- Single-file browser speed
- Multi-file browser speed
- JDownloader 2 transfer speed
- Stability during the test session
- Whether speed improves with parallel downloads
- Whether performance is practical for large archive sets
Scoring guide:
| Score | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 9–10 | Very strong premium speed in our test, especially with multi-file downloads or JD2 |
| 7–8 | Good premium speed, but not among the fastest hosts tested |
| 5–6 | Usable speed, but with noticeable limits or weaker single-file performance |
| Below 5 | Slow or inconsistent premium performance during our test |
We do not treat one speed result as a permanent guarantee. Speeds can vary by region, ISP routing, server load, account tier, and connection settings.
2. Ease of Use
This category measures how practical the host is for ordinary users.
We consider:
- Website clarity
- Download button flow
- Account dashboard usability
- Payment and reseller friction
- Captcha or verification steps
- Whether premium users still face unnecessary manual steps
- Whether the site creates confusion with redirects or misleading buttons
Scoring guide:
| Score | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 9–10 | Clear interface, smooth premium download flow, and minimal user friction |
| 7–8 | Mostly usable, with some payment, dashboard, or workflow friction |
| 5–6 | Functional but awkward, manual, or inconsistent |
| Below 5 | Confusing interface, broken flow, or heavy friction even for premium users |
Payment reliability can vary by country, bank, card issuer, reseller, and payment method.
3. Free Tier Usability
This category measures whether the free version is usable without premium access.
We consider:
- Free download speed
- Waiting timers
- Captcha requirements
- Popups, redirects, and ad behavior
- Lockout or cooldown periods between files
- Whether multi-part archives are realistic on the free tier
Scoring guide:
| Score | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 9–10 | Strong free-tier speed with limited waiting and manageable friction |
| 7–8 | Usable free tier, but with some waiting, captcha, or ad friction |
| 5–6 | Technically usable for small files, but weak for large downloads |
| Below 5 | Very slow, heavily restricted, or impractical for large archive downloads |
A fast free tier can still lose points if the page has heavy ads, redirects, or long cooldown periods.
4. JDownloader 2 Support
This category measures how well the host works with JDownloader 2.
We consider:
- Whether JD2 accepts the account login
- Whether JD2 recognizes the account as premium
- Whether links can be added and started correctly
- Whether traffic allowance appears inside JD2
- Whether multi-file queues work
- Whether captcha, plugin, or account errors interrupt downloads
Scoring guide:
| Score | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 9–10 | JD2 worked correctly in our test and handled premium queues well |
| 7–8 | JD2 worked, but with some limits, lower scaling, or occasional friction |
| 5–6 | JD2 partially worked, but browser downloads may be more reliable |
| Below 5 | JD2 failed, detected the account incorrectly, or was not supported |
JDownloader 2 behavior can change after plugin updates or file host website changes. A working result should not be treated as permanent.
5. Value and Limits
This category measures whether the premium plan offers practical value.
We consider:
- Plan price
- Daily or monthly traffic allowance
- File retention rules
- Whether higher tiers are needed for useful limits
- Payment and reseller fees
- How the host compares with similar services
- Whether the host is common enough to justify buying
Scoring guide:
| Score | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 9–10 | Strong value based on price, traffic allowance, and practical usefulness |
| 7–8 | Reasonable value, with some plan or limit caveats |
| 5–6 | Useful only if your target files are hosted there |
| Below 5 | Weak value because of low limits, high cost, poor availability, or account restrictions |
A cheap plan is not always good value. A fast host is also not useful if your target files are rarely hosted there.
Final Score Translation
The final score is the sum of the five category scores.
| Total Score | Classification | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 45–50 | Strong Recommendation | Performed well across most categories in our tests |
| 35–44 | Good / Practical | Useful for many users, but with clear caveats |
| 25–34 | Niche / Conditional | Worth considering only if your target files are hosted there |
| Below 25 | Weak / Difficult to Recommend | Too many limits, speed issues, or usability problems in our test |
Scores are a summary, not a promise. Always read the full review before buying, especially if you care about traffic limits, JDownloader 2 support, payment options, or free-tier usability.
Why Scores May Change
File hosting services change often. A score may change when we find updated information about:
- Premium speed
- Free-tier restrictions
- JDownloader 2 compatibility
- Payment options
- Reseller fees
- Traffic allowance
- File retention rules
- Account tiers
- Browser download behavior
When meaningful new data is available, we may update the review and adjust the score.
How to Read Our Ratings
The best file host is not always the one with the highest raw speed.
For example:
- Browser-only users may prefer a host with strong Chrome speed.
- JDownloader 2 users should prioritize JD2 account recognition and queue behavior.
- Heavy downloaders should check traffic limits carefully.
- Occasional users may care more about short-term pricing.
- Free users should focus on free speed, captcha steps, waiting timers, and cooldown limits.
Our recommendation is usually conservative: test a short plan first before buying a long subscription.
